چکیده

Many bottom-mounted offshore wind farms are currently planned for the coastal areas of Japan, in which speeds 6.0–10.0 m/s extremely common. The impact such is very relevant realization farms. In evaluating feasibility these farms, therefore, strict evaluation at important. present study, airflow characteristics 2 MW-class downwind turbine wake flows were first investigated using a vertically profiling remote sensing measurement device (lidar). turbines used this study installed point where sea just front turbines. A ground-based continuous-wave (CW) conically scanning lidar system (“ZephIR ZX300”) was used. Focusing on near-wakes, detailed behaviors considered. We found that influence wake, is, loss (wind velocity deficit), large speed range m/s, and almost constant (6.0–10.0 m/s). It additionally shown results correspond to distribution thrust coefficient turbine. proposed computational fluid dynamics (CFD) porous disk (PD) model as an intermediate method between engineering models CFD models. Based above observations, reproducing behavior wakes with PD we developed set m/s. Targeting vertical near-wake region acquired “ZephIR ZX300”, tuned parameters (CRC = 2.5). practice, when mean deficit due wakes, applying swept area effective. That can reproduce average area.

Characterization of Turbulence in Wind Turbine Wakes under Different Stability Conditions from Static Doppler LiDAR Measurements

Wake characteristics are of great importance for wind park performance and turbine loads. While wind tunnel experiments provided a solid base for the basic understanding of the structure and dynamics of wind turbine wakes, the consequent step forward to characterize wakes is full-scale measurements in real atmospheric boundary layer conditions under different stability regimes. Scanning Doppler...

Atmospheric Turbulence Effects on Wind-Turbine Wakes: An LES Study

A numerical study of atmospheric turbulence effects on wind-turbine wakes is presented. Large-eddy simulations of neutrally-stratified atmospheric boundary layer flows through stand-alone wind turbines were performed over homogeneous flat surfaces with four different aerodynamic roughness lengths. Emphasis is placed on the structure and characteristics of turbine wakes in the cases where the in...

A Methodology for the Reconstruction of 2D Horizontal Wind Fields of Wind Turbine Wakes Based on Dual-Doppler Lidar Measurements

Dual-Doppler lidar is a powerful remote sensing technique that can accurately measure horizontal wind speeds and enable the reconstruction of two-dimensional wind fields based on measurements from two separate lidars. Previous research has provided a framework of dual-Doppler algorithms for processing both radar and lidar measurements, but their application to wake measurements has not been add...

Quantifying error of lidar and sodar Doppler beam swinging measurements of wind turbine wakes using computational fluid dynamics

Wind-profiling lidars are now regularly used in boundary-layer meteorology and in applications such as wind energy and air quality. Lidar wind profilers exploit the Doppler shift of laser light backscattered from particulates carried by the wind to measure a line-of-sight (LOS) velocity. The Doppler beam swinging (DBS) technique, used by many commercial systems, considers measurements of this L...

Aerodynamics of wind turbine wakes Literature review

This report reviews the available literature on the aerodynamics of wind turbines and wind farms. Firstly, two introductory chapters are devoted to the physics of the flow around a wind turbine and the existing engineering models for blade and wake aerodynamics. The focus of this work is however on the numerical modeling of wakes. The difficulties in solving the Navier-Stokes equations are disc...
